GISELLA OLGUÍN

GISELLA OLGUÍN. The Coast Route.

Gisella is an ambassador for the coastal products of her beloved Bucalemu, in the Commune of Paredones. Her father was an artisanal fisherman, diver, seashore collector and algae collector, all tasks that have been kept within his family for generations. Since she was a child, she was linked with the sea and, especially, with algae, traveling with her family, in the season of marine plants, between November and March, from Bucalemu to Cáhuil, and living in the settlements on the shores of the sea, known among fishermen as rucos. Despite having distanced herself from her tradition for several years, she returned to her own after living in Rancagua. In 2015 she began her venture, Baja Marea, with the aim of marketing algae harvested with good practices, in a clean, sustainable manner, and encouraging the consumption of this natural and healthy food.
